Loyalty is something that is ingrained in Book's DNA. He comes from a big family, a military family, played team sports growing up, participated in all of the general activities that foster that camaraderie. He is and always will be of the mentality to "never leave a man behind".

That said, his loyalty, while rock solid, is irreparable once it is lost. It's a flaw that he has always had, one that reared its ugly head in the midst of his PTSD, the way feelings of betrayal and misgivings can get into his head. However, while he may be loyal, he trusts no one. Not even himself.

does your muse think of themselves as a good person?

She thinks she's okay. She's certainly not a mass baby murderer or anything that might be described as ontologically evil, but she's by no means perfect. She tries her best, doesn't go out of her way to be malicious or mean to anyone, but as you always know with the quiet ones, there's a lot bubbling underneath the surface, and that is what Jac doesn't like about herself and doesn't think is inherently "good".

These are normal emotions of frustration, loneliness, anger, anxiety, but without the proper vocabulary or ability to express them, it all becomes internalized. She gets upset over something and has a rash or unkind thought, and then she feels guilty over it, because a good person wouldn't have those thoughts. A good person wouldn't have such ugliness in their heart.

But also she's starting to wonder what being good has gotten her up until now.

are there any morals your muse learned in childhood that they still live by?

Honestly, not really. Laure cringes when she thinks back to her human life, which was so incredibly different from where she is now. As a human, she was demure, meek some might say, because that is what was expected of her. She played dutiful wife, mother and grandmother and continued with that role until the moment a vampire snapped her neck. It was a plain, boring life with nothing to show for it, and she died as she was born, nobody.

When she realized what she had become, Laure decided to leave her old life behind and never look back. Her bloodline died in the plague, and in a time where barely anyone could read or write their own name, it's not like there were records. With this new life, she could become anyone and be anything, and that's exactly what she did. But in doing so, she chose to turn her back on everything she was before: weak, quiet and submissive. Her morals today eschew things like compassion and obedience, instead focusing on her own gratification and hedonism.

There's a long silence before he decides that he'll actually answer. His daughters and late wife are never far from his mind, even if he rarely speaks of them. He wants to linger in the good memories, but always, he is drawn back to that night of carnage. The overwhelming scent of copper as it drenched the living room carpet. In war, he had seen bodies shredded apart by IEDs and machine guns, horrific images that he carried with him back stateside, but all of that paled in comparison to what he had encountered that night.

"My youngest girl was a spitfire," he begins, voice rougher than normal. Tomorrow, he might blame this uncharacteristic moment of sentimentality on being drunk, even though he's barely had half a beer. "Always followin' her sisters around, curious as all hell. Smarter than I ever was, but she gets that from her mama."

A long and heavy pause as Book takes another long pull from his beer. The glass bottle hits the tabletop with a thump as he stands up out of his chair. He could talk more about how he failed her, all throughout her life but his self-loathing could only carry him so far. "Hopefully she's in a better place now." Book was raised Catholic, but had lost his faith after his tours, and once more after he lost his family. But sometimes he catches himself praying to a God he doesn't fully believe in.

how often does your muse self-reflect?

Near constantly. There's never a moment when there isn't some sort of inner monologue going in Arte's mind. It started as a habit when they were trapped as a wolf, with only snippets and flashes that really embedded themselves in their memory. That internal dialogue is quite literally what kept them tethered to their sanity (though there are moments when they wonder if it was even all that successful). But regardless, it is something that has persisted over the years, and even intensified since they have been able to manage their turns.
